My Comments

I must confess I was only interested in watching this drama because I've been following No Min Woo, themes of food don't really interest me, so I was pleasantly supprised when I watched the first episode and really liked it! And then later on I became addicted! What I love the most in this is the interaction between the characters, especially the main couple and there were parts that I found hillarious! The ending was fairly satisfactory and was a well rounded drama. There were a couple of parts that were left unexplained especially where No Min Woo's character was concerned, but I liked it.

Seol is told she is the heiress to the throne, a lost princess and now she has to be taught to become worthy of the throne, by the all time princess hater, Park Hae Young!

Dream High

Description: We follow six students who enter Kirin high school to become stars and follow their dreams!

My Comments:

Waaaah! this drama is really something there are more celebrities in here then celebrity big brother! (no i don't watch it!) the drama is right up my street as it's something I'm interested in as a future career and reminds me of the good ol' days when I used to perform. The one thing that annoys me is that the girls are really nasty to one-another, which does also remind me of the past but some parts are really unnecessary!

Playful Kiss

Description: Playful Kiss is about a popular and genius male student named Baek Sueng-jo who has a stand-offish personality and Oh Hani who is a female student who makes up for being not-so-genius by always being smiling and happy. An earthquake destroys the girl's home and she and her dad end up living with the boy's family. The girl has kept this boy in her heart but she has never received any assurances of her love being reciprocated. Fun and groans ensue as they interact and rub off on each other. How will this drama end?

My Comments:

This is the Korean version and the most recent version of 'It Started With a Kiss' I think this version is a bit better because it's less silly (although it still is) and less cringing, but you will still need your pillow to scream into at the frustrating and dumb things Oh Hani does! WARNING: If you don't like seeing needles, don't watch the second episode of the specials!

The students try to bully her to make her quit, but their attempts don't get them very far. What the class and the rest of the school does not know is that Yamaguchi Kumiko is actually the 4th generation heir to the Ooedo Group, a notorious yakuza clan. Even though her family would like her to take the title of Ojou when her grandfather dies, they have accepted the fact that Yamaguchi would rather be a teacher. Eventually, the students learn to respect their quirky teacher because of her devotion to them, and even give her a nickname: Yankumi.

It's truly awesome to see a teacher kick some ass, and this has lots of it! I think everyone at some point has to watch Goukusen! I think because I enjoyed this drama that when I came to watch the second series I didn't want to watch it because Yankumi has a different class and I was rather attached to all her students by the end, I will soon watch the rest of the series now that it's been a while since I watched the first series!

Incidentally, they come to know of a young man who was in fact a son of the prince to a woman who left the Palace for her to be able to keep her pregnancy a secret. The young man's name was Lee Hoo (Se7en), more commonly known to his friends as Kang Hoo. Lee Hoo worked as a delivery boy at a Chinese restaurant, and was known for his 7-minute maximum delivery time. Lee Hoo had been brought up as more of a punk than a prince so his habits and his way of conversing were very different from the people of royal blood. Although he had never dreamt of living in the Palace, he one day finds himself immersing himself in its grandeur and improving himself to prove that he indeed deserves to be called the Successor to the throne. He soon finds out that not only will he be facing lessons to the path of royalty, and dilemmas of love and of stature, but he will also learn to compete for the position he had been, first and fore mostly, called for.

My Comments:

Created shortly after it's elder sister, Goong S or Goong Prince Hours shouldn't be compared to Goong Princess Hours I tried during the first few episodes to try and connect the two, but actually the stories have nothing to do with each other! because of this I ruined it for myself! On it's own Goong S is a good drama and is something you should watch.

Hana Kimi (Japanese version)

Description: Based on a popular comic, this hilarious comedy follows the chaos, troubles and friendship at a boys' boarding school after a girl dessed as a boy joins. Mizuki Ashiya (Maki Horikita) has just come back to Japan from California where she was raised. She fell in love with a hopeful high jump hero Izumi Sano (Shun Oguri), but he quit after an accident. As she wants him to go back to the sport once again, she enters the same high school as a boy! With short hair, flattened chest and lowered voice, she starts sharing the same room with Sano at the dorm. Living in a dorm at a boys' high school is hard enough; changing clothes, bathrooms, etc., but things get even more complicated when Shuichi Nakatsu (Toma Ikuta) has feelings toward Mizuki while Sano notices Mizuki is actually a girl and falls in love with her but she is unaware!

My Comments:

This story no matter how many times you see it, it's always brilliant. The Japanese cast is brilliant and the setting, I'm not sure if I prefer the Japanese version or the Taiwanese version.

Quan carries her to the infirmary and realizes that Rui Xi is in fact a girl! However, Quan keeps her identity a secret. Hana Yori Dango

Description: Makino Tsukushi is the only poor student at Eitoku Gakuen, the school of the ridiculously rich and privileged that is ruled by Flower 4 or F4, a group of four boys who come from extremely powerful families: Domyoji Tsukasa, the leader and heir of the Domyoji World Finance Group; Hanazawa Rui, the introverted son of a large company; Nishikado Sojiro, a player who is the heir of a tea ceremony school; and Mimasaka Akira, a madam killer with ties to the underground. If a student gets on the F4's bad side, he/she gets a red notice and is bullied and driven out of school. Makino hopes to pass her days quietly-- without drawing any attention to herself-- but one day, she stands up to Domyoji in defense of her friend. The next day, Makino gets the dreaded red notice. Even though she is harassed, Makino decides to keep going to school because she is a 'tough weed'. She declares war right back on the F4. Her resolve gets the attention of her crush Hanazawa Rui and oddly enough, rouses romantic feelings in her worst enemy, Domyoji Tsukasa. The series is based on the Japanese shoujo manga "Hana Yori Dango" (Boys Before Flowers) by Kamio Yoko.

My Comments:

Ah... Hana Yori Dango lol this is a dam good story that you have to know! I love the cast in this particular version and love the way they finished it off with the movie. I have to admit though, by the end of the drama I pretty much had enough of Makino's character.

HERO

Description: Kohei Kuryu is a former juvenile delinquent who drops out of junior high and goes on to earn a high school equivalency diploma. After passing the law board exams, Kuryu becomes a prosecutor. Not your typical prosecutor, which is quickly seen through the clothes that he wears, Kuryu possesses quick instincts and a kind of cleverness that only someone raised on the streets could have. Maiko Amamiya is a shrewd public prosecutor who has her eyes set on passing the exam to become a deputy prosecutor and tries her best to be noticed by her boss. Kuryu, on the other hand, after earning a reputation for doing top-notch work, is transferred to Amamiya's division, and finally opens his eyes to the possibility of promotion. Unfortunately, his unprecedented work behavior abruptly brings things to a halt. Although earning a reputation as a bad apple, the influence from Kuryu's strong pursuit of justice slowly begins to change things around him. This drama is filled with it all; love, laughs and lots of emotion.

My Comments:

One thing I love about Kimura Takuya  is that he most of the time plays rather quirky and interesting characters, this drama is no acception. This drama may have a boring subject but you can't help to watch Kohei Kuryu and his obsession for buying things off shopping channels!

It Started With a Kiss

Will the close proximity give her a second chance to win Zhi Shu's heart? Or, will her love for him end under his cold words? What happens when there is competition for his heart?

My Comments:
Haha! this is a seriously cringing drama! I spent most of my time shouting and screaming at the screen seeing Xiang Qin doing stuff a normal human being with any self respect wouldn't do! still it's rather entertaining and a bit of fun!

Liar Game

Liar Game Description: Kanzaki Nao is an honest college student who receives a hundred million yen one day, along with a card saying she has been chosen to take part in the "Liar Game". The aim of the game is to trick the other players out of their hundred million dollars. At the end, the winner gets the hundred million and the loser is a hundred million yen in debt. The next day, she receives notification that her opponent is her former teacher, Fujisawa Kazuo. She goes to him, seeking help, but ends up getting tricked into handing her money over. Desperate, she approaches the police for help, but they are unable to do anything. However, she is told of a mastermind swindler, Akiyama Shinichi, who is to be released from jail the next day. Desperate, she goes to him for help.

My Comments:

One of my favorites, this drama has a wonderful gift of creating suspense the soundtrack is to die for, only thing is, that if you have a fear of clown masks, u might have a harsh time, the characters in clown masks are rather freaky. Because of how great the drama is there was much hype and anticipation for the final, which was made into a film, I have to say personally I didn't like the ending, but you will understand why when you watch it!

9/10 (I marked it down one because of the ending haha! I won't let it go!)

Love or Bread

Description: Frank (Joe Cheng) is a guy who lives his life in a facade, letting the world believe he's a wealthy young gentlemen. When in fact he's a lazy, procrastinating in debt pauper. While Shan Mei (Ariel Lin) is a poor young woman, but kind, filial and very hard-working bread winner of her family. They encounter each other when both are in need of housing, they end up sharing a broke-down old house together. Their characters totally opposite of each other, so they ultimately butt heads with each other, but share in common the need of money and a new destiny.

My Comments:

Ah the acting duo are back for another round, this time Joe Cheng plays a rather ridiculous character as apposed to his cool, swerve character in 'It Started With a Kiss.' Some parts in this drama are irritating, but you put up with it because of the little gems that appear every now and again!

Drama reviews! -part 1 lol!

Here are my reviews for all of the dramas that I've seen so far:

  ATASHI NO DANSHI

Synopsis:

"Chisato, lost her mother at a young age due to sickness. She spent her youth trying to escape from the huge debt her father left her, and her battle with the re-possessors unfolded every night. However, her life changed after meeting one man named Shinzo, changing her views on the meaning of "family." Shinzo comes from a rich family tracing back to the Edo period, and he adopted six good-looking sons with the hope of one becoming his successor, but all of them have strange personalities. Shinzo promises to free Chisato from her debt if she marries him and becomes the mother of his sons. However, a life with these six guys under one roof will not go smoothly... "

My comments

This is a wonderful and quirky story that makes you laugh. I absolutely adore this drama and it's light hearted tone, which is perfect for watching when you've had enough of the emotional roller coaster type dramas. When it's miserable cold weather outside, snuggle up in bed with a luxurious mug of hot choc and a hot water bottle on your cold toes, let yourself become engrossed in a short but sweet tale that will spark your imagination.

  BAMBINO!

Synopsis:

"A drama adaptation of a popular comic written by Sekiya Tetsuji. After a year of working at a neighborhood Italian restaurant, Ban Shogo (Matsumoto Jun), an enthusiastic, cocky young college student from Fukuoka, comes to Tokyo to perfect his cooking skills as a chef in Italian cuisine. He discovers he has much to learn and has to continually prove himself to the very competitive, quick and efficient staff at the upscale Italian restaurant."

My comments:

There is no doubt that if you want to know about Italian cooking, working as a chief or are just obsessed about food, you might find 'Bambino!' one of the best cookery dramas. If you are looking for a story with a huge depth, twists and magical happenings, you'd best look for something else. 'Bambino!' is a gritty story with no sugar, just salt! After watching Matsumoto Jun in the likes of 'Hana Yori Dango' and 'Kimi Wa Petto' I thought I had watched the limits of the variety of this kid's one eyebrow lifting talent. Watching Matsumoto in 'Bambino!' was like how a kid feels when they discover a new thing their old toy can do! I must admit the main themes of the drama I personally found uninteresting but I found myself drawn in at some point to Shogo's character and developed a need for him to achieve his goals. It's this element that makes it a successful drama but if the subject is not something that interests you, it might be a hard time to ride out to see the outcome of the story. Take my advice and watch the first episode, if you find yourself bored, don't watch it any further, one look at those frustrated eyes and you'll have to watch it to the end, unless you're inhuman!

Boys Before Flowers BOYS OVER FLOWERS

Synopsis:

"Jan Di is an average girl whose family owns a dry-cleaning shop that is located near the luxurious and well-known Shin Hwa College. Jan Di meets the four richest and spoiled boys when she delivers laundry to the school one day. The boys are known as the F4 and cause trouble to those who speak out against them."

My comments:

For those of you who have watched the other versions of this drama, which are "Hana Yori Dango" and "Meteor Garden" and enjoyed it, may want to watch this Korean version. Extras have been added to the story line which round everything that much more better like secondary characters back stories and more of a rivalry between the 'Rui and Domyoji' equivalent characters. Jan Di's character has been made more capable to cope with all the rotten situations thrown at her and more smarter than Tsukushi's character.

For those of you who haven't watched any of the previous versions of this drama, watching this will take you on a wonderful journey and a roller coaster of emotions, just make sure you have a pillow handy to hide yourself during the painfully embarrassing moments, and are sitting in a sound proof room so your shouting at the screen won't disturb and freak out the people you live with!

 COFFEE PRINCE!

Synopsis:

"The life of Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) is not easy; she works many jobs to pay off debts and even gave up her feminine image. Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo) is the heir of a big food company, but his grandmother wants him to settle down, so she arranged many dates for him. After Eun Chan bumped into Han Kyul and was mistaken for a boy, Han Kyul decided to hire Eun Chan to be his gay lover in order to avoid the arranged dates. Desperately in need of money, Eun Chan had no choice but to accept. Han Kyul's grandmother also made Han Kyul in charge of a filthy coffee shop in danger of being bankrupt. Eun Chan begged to work at the coffee shop, and not long after, feelings start to spark, except, how would Han Kyul accept his "homosexuality"?"

My comments:

Yoon Eun Hye, is a lovely actress. I have followed her around since my first drama 'Goong Princess Hours' and found it rather a shock to see her dressed in boyish attire and short hair! What's more shocking is the amount she eats for this role! *elegant image has now been erased* This drama has a wonderful mix of humour with a bit of seriousness thrown in and the relationship between the main characters is pure gold. The 'princes' are cute, I mean who doesn't like Kim Jae Wook selling waffles? This is a heart warming tale that you are sure to love.
